"Sadly, parts of our society are losing faith with the sustainability movement, due to greenwashing and the unnecessary use of complex strategies. We believe that sustainability should be simple and straight-forward," said Steven Brown, Principal of Terra Mater Consulting.
Greenwashing refers to the misleading use of information to give the appearance of sustainable practices.
"Many companies are signing up to commitments, or carrying out environmental projects that don't have a tangible benefit. This dilutes the real efforts of other companies, and leaves society skeptical about the entire movement, " according the Brown.
Brown and his family established Terra Mater Consulting to help companies be more sustainable, but in a meaningful manner. "We believe any effort should have a tangible result in the real world. Too many corporations have great websites and sustainability reports, but don't translate that into actual environmental benefits."
